What Is The Difference Between Swedish Massage And Deep Massage?
Two of the most widely-known types of massage therapy are Swedish massage and deep (or deep tissue) massage. Both have their benefits and are similar in technique, with the main difference being the amount of pressure used. Both are massage therapy options we offer at our Life Wellness Center locations in Eagan and Lakeville.

The Swedish Massage
When you think of getting a massage, do you picture yourself lying face-down and completely relaxed? What you’re picturing is typical Swedish massage therapy, also known as the “classic” massage technique. Its main focus is increasing blood circulation which helps flush lactic acids from your muscle fibers, thus releasing body tension and improving muscle flexibility.

Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage uses many of the same massage techniques of Swedish massage therapy, but the intended purpose is to massage deeper into your muscle layers by applying more pressure by way of a therapist’s fingers, fists, and elbows to reach and relax the deep muscle tissue. It increases blood flow and may help reduce inflammation, and is well suited for athletes and individuals with chronic pain conditions like fibromyalgia and back pain.

Is One Better Than The Other?
Both types of massage therapy promote overall body relaxation and reduce stress, pain, and muscle tension. And each therapy has its own benefits, so there really isn’t a “better” option. Swedish massage therapy is perfect for anyone who is looking to increase their overall mood and physical well-being, while deep tissue massage therapy focuses more on recovering from injuries and chronic pain.

The Benefits Of Massage Therapy
Overall, some studies have shown massage therapy may be helpful in reducing anxiety, headaches, and some digestive disorders while promoting an overall sense of improved mood and body health.
